Sonamara was built in 1936  in Gover, Scotland  by Harry Mc.Lean Ltd.

Planking and deckhouse are  of the best  Teak ;frames and beams of white oak, fastening in bronze. One of the most fascinating yachts of this kind. One of the very first Motorsailers, infact the two not so small masts , allow the use of auxiliary sails, and with favourable winds Sonamara can sail even without engine on. With her canoe stern the yacht is wider and more roomy than other yachts of the same length. Her hull is seaworthy and stable. Her sweet deckhouse ,the two nice masts, the shape of hull, the wide deck and the original details make Sonamara a delightful little yacht that looks like a big one. A plate in the wheelhouse remembers that Sonamara was used in the second world war  by Great Britain Government as a parent ship during the military operations between Dover and Dunkerque area .. This is why she can still be called  Her Majesty Ship Sonamara.

There are still an incredible amount of old   documents and original  logbooks of the war time  on board!

The yacht is in general good conditions, and she is currently sailing for the pleasure of her owner. A new owner should decide to have the electric system redone, and a general check .The teak deck is the original one .
